In response to our congregation’s growing sense of concern about the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, and several members’ expressed desire to be more engaged in practical peacemaking efforts, RBC has formed a Holy Land peacemaking group. The group focuses its efforts in four areas: education, advocacy, fundraising, and networking.
Since its inauguration in March 2007, the group has participated in a number of workshops on peacemaking; invited Christian, Jewish, and Muslim peacemakers to address our congregation; engaged in advocacy efforts in Washington; hosted a prayer vigil in the midst of Israel's incursion into the Gaza Strip in January 2009; raised thousands of dollars to support a Palestinian farmers’ cooperative, sponsor Palestinian children, and provide training in leadership and nonviolence to young people in the West Bank; and taken a trip to Israel and the Palestinian territories in November 2007. We continue to look for new and creative ways to be a part of the solution to the conflict in the Middle East.
