Members of Ravensworth Baptist Church and a few guests from the local community gathered on Wednesday evening, February 11, for One Night, One Voice: An Evening of Action for Darfur. We watched a gripping short film produced by the Save Darfur Coalition, Violence against Women and the Darfur Genocide, and learned how the Government of Sudan and the Janjaweed militias are using rape and other forms of sexual violence as too ls of war in their continuing campaign of genocide against the people of Darfur.
After the screening, Associate Pastor Bob Turner led a lively group
discussion about the film and a number of issues related to the crisis
in Darfur. Participants took action by signing petitions urging the
Obama Administration to act quickly and decisively to end the genocide,
and by recording phone messages of solidarity and encouragement that
will eventually be played in refugee and IDP (Internally Displaced
Persons) camps to Darfuri women and to peacekeepers stationed in the
region. It was a difficult subject to talk about, but the group
departed with a renewed zeal to see justice done in Darfur and other
troubled spots throughout the world.
So you say you were not able to attend the event at RBC on the 11th?
Never fear--there are still a variety of ways you can take action:
