bob_stole_1Bob has been a member of Ravensworth Baptist Church since May 2005, and he joined the church staff in November 2006, when health issues forced Senior Pastor Steve Hyde to take a leave of absence. The church called on Bob to serve in an interim capacity to coordinate and lead worship services, do pastoral care, and try to keep the ship afloat until Steve was well enough to return.

During that six-week period at the end of 2006, the church voted to offer Bob a temporary position as Interim Associate Minister. In October 2007, the church voted to create a permanent full-time Associate Pastor position, and asked Bob to fill that role. An ordained American Baptist minister, Bob has served as a youth minister in Indiana, a campus minister in Illinois and West Virginia, and as the government relations coordinator of a human rights lobbying organization in Virginia. He is a 1990 graduate of Southern Illinois University, and earned a Master of Divinity in Christian Education from the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in 1995 and a Master of Public Administration degree from West Virginia University in 2003.

Bob and Sarah, who works as a national church outreach associate with Bread for the World, were married in 2005, and Bob has two daughters from a previous marriage. Natalie, 14, is starting ninth grade, and Rachel, 12, is in seventh. Both are members of the RBC youth group. In January 2008, Bob and Sarah launched a new adventure: they began the process of adopting a child.

Bob’s interests include music—especially jazz and rock—writing, and reading. He has a special interest in books about Jesus in his historical context. Bob also loves movies, trivia, puzzles, and sports.
